Retail Security: Best Video Security System for Your Shop

The Holidays can be a wonderfully peaceful time where you come together with friends and family to celebrate the closing of another wonderful year and look forward to the coming year ahead in great anticipation.

But all is not well if you have a business or want to secure a small retail space because this time of year can also be seen as ripe with opportunity for scammers and criminals as well, and that’s where we can come in to provide you with complete answers and quality solutions to just about any retail security problem and how to address it depending on size, space, indoor, outdoor, etc. so you can be secure knowing you have the best protection to keep your retail store or small business secure for the holidays.

We also cover some things you may or may not have thought to cover when it comes to security cameras and monitoring of your retail space or small business.

Retail Security From Within

To begin we need to address the many hidden things we need to keep an eye on for securing a retail space or small business and the first although not fun to talk about can happen a lot more than people realize especially in retail stores with a high employee turnover rate.

Employee theft can be something that goes under the radar if you are a trusting individual but the fact is employee theft costs U.S. businesses $50 Billion per Year on average so you have to be aware of threats both inside and out and one of the ways to cover that is to get a security camera system to watch things when you the owner or manager can’t be there or have other things to do. It will also cover you in the case of customer theft if nothing else than to have video evidence of the theft and criminal to lead police investigators in the right direction and cover insurance for loss of revenue.

Pay Now Or Pay Later

Robberies continue to be a growing expense for retailers, costing an average of $8,180.17 in 2016, up from $2,465, so you want a camera and monitor that is easy to use but has the technology to set and forget and give you the peace of mind you can only get when all your bases are covered.

The selection of retail security cameras that will fit your need will depend wildly on your preferences, the space you are working with, the features and functions you need, etc. but for today we are going to look at a camera that is an all around powerhouse and is perfect for securing spaces both small and big while giving you a clear picture and vandal resistant housing.

  • How Much Security Do You Need?

This section is a bit of a bonus section but is very important in that it will give you an idea of what you need for the relative size of your retail location for which we can give an estimated guess on the amount of supplies you will need for any given size or space of your application.

Range Guide:

Remember these are rough guesses and depending on the shape and surrounding coverage of trees and foliage outdoors the placement and ranges can be tricky but for the sake of this example we will assume size is the only factor. See below for ranges and suggestions.

  • 500-2,499 – Ranges of this size would be recommended to have at least 2 cameras on the smaller size with up to at least 3 for the higher end of 2,499
  • 2,500-5,999 – In this middle range you would want at least 4 cameras on the lower end and up to between 6 and 8 for the higher end of the square footage range
  • 6,000-10,000 – On the larger operations it can be difficult to estimate but based on size alone it would be smart to have a minimum range of 10 to 15 cameras maybe more.

Depending on outside factors discussed above including surrounding objects and sight lines but these cameras have the technology to cover all bases and bring the best technology available for the price so you have a sound security system and peace of mind that you and/or your business are secure and protected.
